COMPASS / OUR TIME ON EARTH (2020)

NEWMANのSteve Newmanがプロデュースした新しいプロジェクトCOMPASSの「OUR TIME ON EARTH」を紹介いたします。
Steve Newmanが自身のバンドNEWMANから一歩踏み出したサウンド・スタイルのパフォーマンスを長い間考え、そのための楽曲も貯めていたようで、それがCOMPASSのアルバムとして形をなしました。
Escape Recordsの紹介文では、「A very eclectic mix pulling in influences from Dream Theater, Rush, Saga, through It Bites, and Pink Floyd. We hope that “Our Time On Earth” will take the listener on a musical and lyrical journey through emotions and the highs and lows of what essentially this collection of songs is about. Our lives, and the path that each individual takes and how their actions affect themselves and people around them」とあり、サウンド・スタイルはプログレ・メタルしたものですが、メロディもこなれていて、メロディアス・ハードロック・ファンの方にも普通にアピールする内容です。

プログレチックですがメロディアスな01、ストリングスが効果的なスケール感のある02は9分を超える大曲ですが一気に聴けてしまいます。ギターのリフがカッコ良いヘヴィメタルしたナンバーの03、それぞれの楽器のパフォーマンスがカッコ良い04、ミディアム・テンポのバラード風の05、メロディアスなハードロックした06、RUSHタイプの10分を超える大曲はプログレしたナンバー、アコースティックギターとピアノのアンサンブルがいかしたメロディアスな08、とNEWMANとは違うサウンドですが、Steve Newmanがプログレを演ると、こんな音楽に仕上がるんですね。
